In 2017, Middleton Glen resident, Helmut Seaman, directed that instead of receiving the refund of his entrance fee, he wanted it used as seed money for an enduring charitable fund in Middleton Glen’s name.
The Middleton Glen Legacy Fund was created by the MG & SH Boards of Directors in 2018 with a goal of outreach and contribution to the greater good of the Middleton area community. In April 2021, Middleton Glen’s Board voted to expand the distribution goals as follows:
♣ Community Impact. Supporting local organizations aligned with Middleton Glen’s purpose of improving the quality of life for families in the Middleton area.
♣ Staff Support. From time to time, extending a financial helping hand to dedicated members of the Middleton Glen staff who, through no fault of their own, need assistance with education, medical costs or basic needs.
♣ MG Community Life. Beyond the repairs, replacements and upgrades in the annual capital budget, adding amenities to Middleton Glen which encourage good health, activity, social interaction and well-being among Middleton Glen residents.
♣ Benevolent Housing. Assisting Middleton Glen to continue providing a home to residents who, despite their best efforts, have run out of sufficient funds to pay the regular costs of living at Middleton Glen.
The Legacy Fund Committee consists of five voting members who are appointed by Middleton Glen’s Board of Directors. The Committee is charged with helping manage the Fund, encouraging new donations and making recommendations for specific distributions from the Fund for final approval by the Board.
Initial members were Pat Kallsen, Jack Anderson, Herb Heneman, Alan Heitman, Carol Grob, and ex-officio, Kay Kruser. In January 2021, Alan Heitman retired from the Committee, and Patrice Blanchard was appointed.
In 2020, $4,000 from the Fund was awarded to Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) to support their work during the pandemic. For 2021, the focus is on a distribution to support MG Community Life. The amount of annual distribution(s) from the Fund depends on donations received and investment return. The more you give, the more the Legacy Fund can do!
